Chandon Loya is a board-certificated family medicine physician by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). He grew up as the oldest of three brothers in the rural town of Plains, Texas. Graduating with his high school diploma in 2006, he went straight to work as a roughneck on drilling rigs across the West Texas panhandle before attended Texas Tech University for his undergraduate education. He completed a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physics with Honors in 2013 as a first generation college graduate. He worked subsequently for three years in the electromagnetics division as a scientist at the Pantex Plant in Texas, which is the primary nuclear weapons facility that maintains the United States nuclear weapons stockpile. He left his position there in 2016 to attend Texas Tech University Health Science Center, School of Medicine (TTUHSC SOM) and graduated with his Medical Doctorate (M.D.) in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.Dr. Loya also attended residency training in Family Medicine from TTUHSC. Dr. Loya has four children with his wife Alyssa Loya. Earning his Eagle Scout as a young man in the Boy Scouts of America, he is an advocate for the outdoors and enjoys various outdoor activities with his wife and children. Both he and his wife, who is a hospital RN nurse, are passionate about all things rural health care.
